Coverage tiers

Your coverage depends on the injury tier.

Under SABS, MVA injuries are classified into three tiers. Treatment is matched to your tier. Your insurer or lawyer can confirm which applies to you.

Tier 1

Minor Injury Guideline (MIG)

$99.75 / session

Applies to sprains, strains, whiplash, and other soft tissue injuries.

Coverage limit

Up to $3,500 for medical and rehabilitation expenses.

  • Sprains and strains
  • Whiplash-associated disorders
  • Soft tissue injuries

Tier 2

Non-Catastrophic Injury (OCF-18)

$99.75 / session

For injuries more serious than MIG but not meeting the catastrophic threshold.

Coverage limit

Up to $65,000 for medical, rehabilitation, and attendant care; valid up to 5 years from the date of the accident (adults).

  • Fractures requiring rehabilitation
  • Moderate to severe soft tissue injury
  • Psychological and neurological conditions

Tier 3

Catastrophic Impairment (OCF-18)

$105 / session

Applies to the most severe injuries as defined under SABS.

Coverage limit

Up to $1,000,000 for medical, rehabilitation, and attendant care over the lifetime.

  • Paralysis and spinal cord injury
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Amputation
  • Severe burns
